The row over F1's engine rules is set to reach a crescendo at Magny Cours, with FIA president Max Mosley jetting into the region to oversee a Sunday deadline.
Carmakers including Mercedes, BMW, Honda and Toyota are trying to get smaller teams to sign the 'Indianapolis agreement', but - notably MF1 and Prodrive - are holding out for a better deal for customer engine supplies.
2008 entry Prodrive's David Richards is also in France as discussions with the manufacturers enter the final and most crucial stage.
Even if presented with an unanimously signed agreement, however, Mosley is insisting that the carmakers pool a multi-million dollar 'fighting fund' that would finance a subsidised engine option for the small teams.
'Then we will put the supply of engines out to tender,' he explained in an interview with Speed TV, 'so that we know that we've got an engine supplier who can keep up with development.
'It's like a safety net. (But) if we get to Monday morning and there's no agreement, we will stay with what we've got.'
