Title: Bahraini Group Says F1 "Will Not Be Peaceful"
Post by: cosworth151 on February 16, 2011, 02:12:27 PM
This is sounding worse all the time.

Nabeel Rajab, the vice president of the Bahrain Centre for Human Rights, told Arabian Business:

"For sure F1 is not going to be peaceful this time.

"There'll be lots of journalists, a lot of people looking and [the government] will react in a stupid manner as they have done, and that will be bloody, but will be more publicised.

"This will not stop, especially now when people have died. I don't think it's going to stop easily."

Sounds like any other race at Interlagos.  Fly in those security teams that everyone was raving about to get people to and from the track safely.  Assuming the race is still on.

Logistically, when must a decision be made?  Is there any F1 equipment present/in transit currently?

(Is the StefanGP stuff still there?  :P )

Sort of took that last report with a pinch of salt, but this now sounds serious.  :o

Some of the F1 stuff is already there. People need to know by the end of Monday or possibly early Tuesday if they are to get their visas in time.

Also, the security teams can't do a whole lot against the tanks that are involved in this budding civil war.

I would think the tanks would be protecting the race, not attacking it.  They should just do the test like you mentioned and then re-schedule the race for mid summer.

I guess that depends on which side the people in the tank are on. In a civil war, one never really knows. All things considered, it sound like a good place to avoid right now.

The most important thing is that the medical staff are likely to be posted to local hospitals to treat protesters. No medical people, no test and no race.
