We thought this year would be another Mercedes cake walk. Or that the only story would be a showdown between Hamilton and Verstappen.
Instead, we're seeing a resurgence of 'the big three' teams. Ferrari, McLaren and especially Williams have been almost comically incompetent in the turbo hybrid era, and yet here they are qualifying 1-2-3.
Sure the rain helped, and Hamilton getting lost on his way to the pits helped out too, but it was a solid performance from cars/drivers that I certainly didn't expect in March of 2021.
I'm glad the back half of 2021 is more surprises than predictable.

What will be suprising will be the relationship between Ham's march to the front compared to the "reverse back markers" marching through mid-field. Should be an interesting race, hopefully not punctuated by too many error related incidents which would serve to cause an inadvertant win by a "less than superior" driver.
