And You Think That F1 Tech Rules Are Strict.
« on: July 26, 2022, 04:44:31 PM »
F1 is known for obscure, very strict and often seemingly pointless tech rules. They sometimes result in a race winner being disqualified long after the race is over. On the other hand, NASCAR is known loose, flexible rules that are said to be "written in pencil, not ink." And NASCAR never, ever disqualifies a winner after the race.

Sunday, for the first time in 63 years, NASCAR DQ'ed a winner after the race. Denny Hamlin lost his win at Pocono because of 2 pieces of tape under the vinyl wrap on the nose of the car. Teammate Kyle Busch was also DQ'ed for the same thing. Each piece of tape measured two inches wide and five-and-a-half inches long with a thickness of 0.012 inches and installed under the wrap at the corner of each front wheel well.

FYI the last DQ'ed winner was Emanuel "The Golden Greek" Zervakis at Winston, NC in April of 1960 for not having an approved gas tank.

NASCAR designed the latest version of the Car of Tomorrow with the idea of it being essentially a spec car. Teams were warned about making changes, particularly aero changes. Don't know what the tape accomplished, but they finished 1-2 and did not protest the ruling. NASCAR, like many series, is worried about shrinking fields and the loss of small teams, so they are trying to make it cheaper to race and easier to compete.

Didn't country singer Marty Robbin's get dq'ed once in a
race he won?

He got Rookie of the Race at Talladega in 1972. He turned it down and admitted that he ran without a restrictor plate just to see how fast he could go.

Credit to him for honesty after the fact - it would have been easy to accept it and admit the truth later.

OH-NO!  :o  Hope this doesn't start a trend in other series. We've just had anti porpoising TDs & Flexy floor TDs we're not about to get a gaffer tape crackdown in F1 now.  ;) :D :P
