Sutil and Di Resta fighting for that second spot then?

Its been an open secret that 2nd position will be given to Perez as he comes with Telmex sponsorship, which Force India will welcome with both hands.

Here's the official announcement.

I agree with BD. It looks like Di Resta and Sutil are both gone. It looks like this was Plan B for Nico after Lotus went for the money.

There's no doubt that Lotus would have opted for Hulkenberg had they not needed Maldonado's money, since Nico is clearly the superior driver.  Force India will do well out of resigning him in my opinion.

Di Resta's Formula 1 career is possibly over I feel.  He doesn't have any backing, so Perez will take that seat, assuming his sponsor hands over the necessary cash.

Sutil has a chance at Sauber if the rumours are to be believed.

Sauber has been silent for quite a number of time, I hope they make it to the 2014 grid and survive.

Sauber has been silent for quite a number of time, I hope they make it to the 2014 grid and survive.

The current gossip is that Marussia is trying to arrange a merger with Sauber.

Marussia could merge with Sauber leaving just ten teams on the 2014 Formula One grid, claims a report in the German media.

According to Auto Moto und Sport, Marussia - like many of their rivals - are struggling and face a budget of "76 million euros."

The team's Russian owners are keen to merge with another team and, having failed in a bid to do so with Williams, have targeted Sauber.

Journalist Michael Schmidt claims that "chief Andrei Cheglakov is reportedly fed up with needing to dig deep into his own pockets only to be down the field but he still wants to remain in Formula 1.

"He tried to buy Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff's shares at Williams, that's around 15 percent.

"Bernie Ecclestone is said to have endorsed the deal but Claire Williams rejected it as Williams want to remain independent."

The report continued claiming that Marussia have now set their sights on "joining forces" with Sauber, who are "looking for new sponsors and partners on the Russian market."

I wonder which name the merged team would carry, Marussia or Sauber. I assume they would use Sauber's facilities. There would also be two very unhappy drivers.

As Jules has been confirmed by Marussia, surely he is staying after the merger, and I think they wouldn't mind either. On the other hand Chilton is in great danger of losing his seat next year.
