Title: Justin Wilson Looses Ride
Post by: cosworth151 on October 17, 2007, 01:52:25 PM
Former F1 driver Justin Wilson will lose his Champ Car drive at the end of this season. The RuSPORT team that the Brit drives for will cease to exist.

"They have just announced they are closing down," goldcoast.com.au quotes Wilson as saying. "They have just told me and the crew. They don't want to carry on. This weekend I will have to see what my options are.

"The fact that the team is closing down is disappointing, but it happens all the time in motor racing. You just have to pick yourself up and try to get into another good position. I had quite a few people inquire early in the season if I was available for next year and at that time I wasn't. Maybe now, when the news gets out people will start calling up again."

Wilson has been tipped as a possible replacement both to Sebastien Bourdais at Newman/Haas/Lanigan in Champ Car and to Scotsman Dario Franchitti at the IndyCar Series’ Andretti Green Racing. Bourdais is leaving for F1 with Toro Rosso and Franchitti is headed for NASCAR.

Wilson was in F1 for one season. He started 2003 at Minardi and left mid-year for Jaguar. He became notable for listing himself on the London stock exchange as a method of financing his driving career.

This is really unfortunate for Justin Wilson. He was going really well at RUSport. I'll just have to hope he does a Tiago Monteiro (the only other driver to contest that series I've heard of whose team closed down on him) and use it as a stepping stone to (re)enter F1. Maybe now they'll believe him when he says he's not too tall to be good!

When he and Webber were together at Jag, they had to have been the tallest pair of drivers in the history of F1!
