Maybe Merc, Audi, Renault & BMW all figured out that the old "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday" doesn't work with a racing series aimed at Uber riders.

Think Merc will maybe see out the 21/22 season but be looking to find an Independent team to take on the next gen 3 FE for 22/23 with Merc powertrain. After all they've invested heavily in the powertrain to get it this far.

Isn't Formula E a spec racer series? I think all of the cars use the same, sealed, spec power plants.

No they don't. FE started as single-make chassis (designed by Spark Racing Technology with Dallara), single battery format (Williams Advanced Engineering), a Hewland gearbox and the McLaren Applied Technology Motor/inverter/ECU. The competitors are encouraged to develop the hardware and software for the powertrain themselves or buy in from others. This was to make the series attractive to get teams and manufacturers onboard.

From season 2 the powertrain was opened up for manufacturers to develop their own motor/inverter/gearbox set up. From a fully spec format the series immediately bloomed in a diverse technical formula, with many variations on the powertrain format; not all were successful, and few layouts continued to the latter seasons of the formula. The batteries since gen 2 are now supplied by McLaren not Williams.

You want to sell these days, get your car mentioned/driven by a high profile rapper

(Let's be honest, car technology has advanced enough that there are very few 'bad' cars for sale. Most people just get the features they want at a payment they can afford)

F1 teams are happy to have the rappers show up in pitlane to get those mentions, which is why it makes sense to spend half a billion dollars on a race program to attract the best "influencers"

I guess FE doesn't do that
