Eurosport/Yahoo have posted a vid recreating the crash, click web link to view. Golly, how lucky Kubica is to have survived the barrier slicing lengthways through the car.

Certainly lucky John, plus the gods must have been sitting on his shoulder.

It looks different than what I thought had happened. I thought there was a space between two sections of gaurd rail, and Kubica's Skoda was speared by the end of the second one. The vidio makes it look like the guard rail failed and split.
In either case, Kubica wsa very, very lucky not to have been impaled.

An in car camera shot from a car that started ahead of Robert clearly shows two sections of guardrail, end to end, but not properly aligned. Sorry I no longer have the link. The recreation also shows the car striking the guardrail first, but every story has clearly stated he struck a church wall, not a guardrail. The video is informative, but clearly not totally accurate.

I agree about the guardrail being detached, but Kubica's co driver has said in interviews that they didn't hit the church wall, only that they were sliding wide on a righthander and the car was 'leaning' on the guardrail then they came to the gap in the guardrail and at that point the car was skewered.
