Alonso Blasts Schumacher
« on: September 12, 2006, 03:30:27 PM »

Fernando Alonso has blasted Schumacher for his actions, yet at the same time, praised him for being the greatest. Alonso believes Michael is the most unsporting driver ever, but maintains that he is also probably the best.

"Michael is the most unsporting driver F1 has ever seen. Zidane retired with more glory than Schumacher. That doesn't mean he hasn't been the best driver, and fighting against him has been an honour and a pleasure.

I don't agree with Flavio. They haven't given the title to Schumacher already. It's true there have been a lot of decisions against some and in favour of other but that's it."

Fernando's boss Flavio Briatore, certainly believes that the FIA is fixing the Championship for Ferrari and Schumacher to win. Alonso however is much more sensible. He knows that both Ferrari and Renault have been targeted by the FIA for questionable things and that really he and Michael have had the same troubles with the sport's governing body. Things are not all well with the FIA, as Alonso points out and this true, it is acting somewhat questionably itself. Teams and driver just have to deal with this though, and Fernando knows this.

Your Thoughts
Is Fernando is right? Michael has done some very questionable things in the past, all to win of course. Does this mean that he is the most unsporting driver of all time?

No, he's not the most unsporting driver, as Sir Jackie said he has a ruthless streak but if you want to be the best you've got to have it

Michael Schumacher's manager says the retiring German deserves an apology from championship rival Fernando Alonso.

Willi Weber said "That is an unbelievable insult,"  "It is completely below the belt. Alonso is a brilliant driver, but his behaviour leaves a lot to be desired. Michael will give a suitable reply at the next race."

David Coulthard has sided with Fernando Alonso after the Spaniard accused Michael Schumacher of being the most 'unsporting' driver in history.

Coulthard reportedly told BBC Radio's David Croft that the retiring Ferrari racer, 37, was often prone to 'unsporting' moments but not to saying sorry.

''I don't recall him ever coming out and admitting he did anything wrong even when the stewards had penalised him,'' Coulthard, who races for Red Bull, was quoted as saying by British broadsheet the Guardian.

He added: ''I've yet to see him apologise for anything that may have been deemed unsporting.'' But unlike Alonso, 35-year-old Coulthard thinks it is possible that seven time drivers' world champion Schumacher could be given the benefit of the doubt.

He said of Schumacher's refusal to ever apologise: ''That's either a strong inner belief on his part even when the evidence of the governing body suggests he's done something wrong, or it's a strategy ... not to show a weakness.''

Probably both!
