Title: Lawsuit Against Austin F1
Post by: cosworth151 on June 23, 2011, 12:51:42 PM
F1 has run into the true Great American Sport - filing lawsuit!

Three Austin citizens have filed a lawsuit to prevent "the unlawful plunder of public funds for promoters of a Formula One race at a time when the State of Texas claims it cannot afford to adequately fund essential services, such as its public education system."

Austin City Council is scheduled to vote on the race tonight (23 June). That is no longer as clear cut as it was. Pro-race councilperson Randi Shade was voted out of office last Saturday, largely on the issue of public funding for the race.

My thoughts are that this school teacher may have lost her job because she has trouble grasping simple concepts, like differing funding steams for example. The major event fund is never going to fund schools, it was not set up and endowed for that purpose, all she is trying to do is be a kiljoy. >:(

I stand by my previous statement on this subject, 'Man (or woman) cannnot live by education alone'. - Now let's have some racing.  :D

As I understand it the lawsuit is based on a technicality, that the City of Austin did not submit a request for the funds before the State approved them. Seeing that the State of Texas is controlled by Republicans, and they are not very interested in frivolities like education, health care, unemployment etc, I expect this will get straightened out and go ahead, if Tavo has greased the right palms.
