Max/RBR.  Max seems to be enjoying himself when the wins aren't absolute landslides.  I must admit I like this version of Max.

Norris.  Drove a great race, could've won with a better start (though I doubt it.  Max's RBR probably had more in it if they needed).  McLaren is running a very competitive program

Hamilton/Russel/Mercedes.  Probably too late in the year to contend for the top end of the championship, but certainly done a good job improving their on track performance

Alpine.  If you consider RBR, McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes to be the 'top of the field', then Alpine finishing as the best of the midfield is a fantastic advancement on their part.  Gasly was only three seconds off of RBR.

With teams like Alpine and Mercedes making progress, teams like RB, Aston Martin and Williams look very poor in comparison.

I don't really expect much from Haas.

I do wonder if the VW board is wondering what they've bought in Sauber.  Sure, they're not expecting the team without the Audi name to WIN, but they're trying to ensure the team has a solid foundation when they are Audi, and I don't see any of that.

Similarly, RBR has to wonder what they're paying Perez for.  They can't rely on McLaren and Ferrari to keep splitting points to let Max single handedly win the championship.

Piastri.  I always find it curious when a 'top' driver, in a 'top' car finds themselves down grid... and then drive like that's where they belong.  Piastri messed up qualifying... and then raced like he belonged in 7th place.  He's not the first driver to do that (either bad luck in qualifying, spun around during the start, dismal pitstop), I'm just curious about the phenomenon.  I get that passing is hard, but we've seen drivers like Alonso, Hamilton and Button in tough to pass rule sets still carve through the field after being stuck down grid.

Over 200,000 people entered the Bahrain Unlocked F1 competition and I was the only winner so with my eldest son we went to the Bahrain GP totally for free with all the trimmings including a VIP pass to the paddock that cannot be bought.
Below is a link to 167 pictures and a couple of video's all taken by me bar the ones I am in.

I'm just looking to upload some pictures from when I was at the Bahrain GP but I'm unsure if this is an acceptable way to do it?
I could set several pictures within it as a slideshow.

Had a busy weekend, didn't get to watch much coverage besides Q and the race itself, so don't really know much of the off track news.  Perez (one year?  Two years, One year and an option?) and Sainz (Williams?) have signed?  Jacques Villeneuve was being a jerk?

The weather.  We got a wet race without delays or an undriveable track (sure, some drivers might disagree).  It affected strategy, gave drivers a chance to demonstrate their skill.

Max:  Not the easiest win he's had in the last few years.  I think he enjoys working for his wins, and I prefer watching.  I don't know that things were in serious jeopardy for him, but still, well done.

Hamilton and Russell:  great drives from both drivers.  I'd say looks like the car has finally improved, but we've seen how a car can be 'improved' one weekend and then useless the next.  Hopefully Mercedes is on the up.  Maybe Russell was optimistic with his one pass attempt, and while the stewards figured it was a 'racing incident', I would agree if Russell did get the penalty.  Clean fight between Hamilton and Russell though.

Piastri and Norris:  ditto.  They both proved to be strong drivers who belong at the pointy end of Formula One.

Albon.  His pass was one for the ages.  Threading the needle on a wet track could have easily gone wrong. Such a shame to be randomly taken out.  He might be the most snakebit driver on the grid.

Mercedes AMG:  6 of 8 cars in the top 10, maybe 7 if Albon had finished

Alpine:  double points finish may not be a lot for a team that used to win championships, but better than Ferrari and Red Bull.

Perez:  continues to struggle.  There's something there.  Is it the car?  Is it slip in skills?  Confidence? He may not be my favourite racer, but all the same I hope he gets it sorted out.

Ferrari:  on top of the world one weekend, double DNF the next.  Sainz brought on the DNF himself, but he didn't have a machine that he needed to contend either.  (Always hard to give someone a zero because driving on a wet track is tough)

Esteban Ocon will be leaving Alpine at the end of the season. Ocon joined the team as a driver in 2020. His Endstone roots go back to when he was a junior driver for them under the Lotus banner back in 2014.

The split was announced by both the driver and the team. Neither Ocon nor Alpine have said anything about plans for 2025.

The team made the official announcement that 2024 would be their last year of competition. If you don't follow NASCAR this is roughly the equivalent of Williams closing down. Don't know if this will in any way affect the Haas F1 team.
