Title: Should F1 go backwards?
Post by: lkjohnson1950 on January 10, 2020, 11:31:25 PM
Peter Wright, the man who practically invented ground effects at Lotus and is now working for the FIA thinks F1 could cure a lot of problems especially with overtaking if they allowed the teams to use side skirts again.

Good vid Lonny, thanks.  :good:

Interesting thoughts, can't quite see a return to width and shape of cars used by Arnoux and Villeneuve at the incredible duel of Dijon though.

Trouble is allowing return of skirts might lead to a total closing up of the field making the individual construction element of the formula rather redundant.

My fear is this will inevitably lead to single specification chassis as the rules will need to be overly proscriptive to prevent an arms race around the skirts, which by Wright's own admission will be majority downforce generator on F1 cars.  - We may get Indy cars by default.  :swoon:
