6 cylinder V8 under just 1 in 6 new car hoods now, is American icon dead?  :o

These "V8 is dead" stories have been around since the mid-1970's.

Ford just introduced a new V8. The E-Series van (the only trucks our company has bought for years) isn't even available with anything smaller. The one we got for our AMVETS post a year or so ago has a V10.

The new Chevy Caprice is a V8.

The US population is getting older. Geriatric-mobiles, like the Buick shown, tend to have smaller engines.

I currently have a Ford 460 c.i.d. Lima-block engine an engine stand in my garage. (No, it's not for the MG Midget  ;) ) It will make a nice street engine once I stretch it out a bit.

Indeed, the V6 is on the way out, but the V8?

Henry Ford was right all along... Americans don't want V6s.  They want 4 or 8 cylinders.

I'm quite happy with my 4 cylinder Ford Escape.  It's got more power than the V6 I had 4 years ago, and absolutely sips gas.

4 cylinders for family movers, 8 cylinders for people who care about cars.  (10 cylinders if there's a job to do...)  There's no room for a V6 anymore.

No car company ever got rich telling Americans what kind of car they want to drive.  (I guess Henry Ford was wrong there.)
