Title: 2019 F1 Car Launch Dates
Post by: cosworth151 on January 04, 2019, 04:10:45 PM
It's a new year & almost time for the new F1 car launches.

Here are the dates that I've been able to find so far:

12 February: Renault
13 February: Racing Point (FIF1)
14 February: McLaren
15 February: Ferrari

I did like McLaren's official Tweet ...

"Some cars are red,
Others are blue.
On Valentine’s Day,
We’ll reveal ours to you."

I hope they don't break hearts in 2019?  (...see what I did there)  :D

Best Regards,
Cal :)

With Fernando's history of bad luck/career decisions I predict McLaren will be back on form. The biggest problem I have is who do I support now???  :DntKnw:

I was in a similar mindset when wee Massa hung up his boots.  After the Damon Hill, David Coulthard, Mark Webber and Jenson Button days, Massa was one of the few left, who I liked to see succeed.   Nowadays, I simply enjoy the sport for what it is and so long as there is good wheel to wheel racing, I don't have any particular favourite driver.

Okay, if a driver came along called Abbaman, I may have to change my tune!  :-[

Cal :)

May I suggest the nice Monsieur Leclerc, he kinda reminds me of a young Nando and we should see some exciting racing from him this term.

That's if Voulez Vous replace Nando.  ;)

I like your suggestion there John  :D Leclerc could be a candidate hehe but I can see a couple of problems...
Number one, do you think he will be allowed to beat the golden boy?
Number two... at 21 years old he is young enough to be my son  :o hehe. I think people would start to call me a cougar or something like that hehe

Well, I think you should become a Leclerc fan, why ??? ...

If he steps out of line, you can coach him with words of wisdom, like >>>

"Take it easy (take it easy)
Better slow down boy
That's no way to go
Does your mother know
Take it easy (take it easy)
Try to cool it boy
Take it nice and slow
Does your mother know

Well I can dance with you honey
If you think it's funny
Does your mother know that you're out
And I can chat with you baby
Flirt a little maybe
Does your mother know that you're out

dee dee dee da do, dara doo da dee,
dara dee do do, da ra ... etc."

Best Regards,
Cal :)

The Racing Point one is a bit odd as they say on February 13th they will be launching their 'season' as opposed to their car, so I think they will be unveiling their new 'look' and have the 2019 car released later, nearer testing.

Wow!!! I bow down to you Sir Benny  ;)
I am impressed but I think my pep talk to him will be more like....The Winner Takes It All, The Loser (Vettel) Has To Fall. Then he really would become a Super Trouper  :yahoo: hehe

Thank you kind lady!

Well, whatever way it shakes out, I'm sure if you decide to mentor Charles, he will secure that relationship with willing words, such as "... take a chance on me!".   If all goes well, there will be no need for alarm bells (or SOS if you like).

Indeed Luke!

As far as the paint job, Force India have a habit of last minute/late changes, as they did this when they changed from the Silver/Orange/Black to "Team Pink" ... so let's see how they approach |Racing Point| in 2019?

I think they're launching in Canada so the Stroll's friends get to see a car in person. Expecting a livery launch only, as the definitive car will still be in Silverstone being built at that point...

Canada has a long and successful history in F1.  Why shouldn't we get a car launch?

It's not just about Stroll's well heeled friends either, I'm planning on being there too!

Excellent! See if you can get a VIP seat as GP Wizard's representative (and tell them I'm a site member if that helps) ;)

Edited to add: People who purchase their Canadian Grand Prix ticket (https://www.gpcanada.ca/en/f1-tickets-and-suites/promotions/?utm_source=SFI+Fan+List&utm_campaign=4fa744e17f-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_01_18_05_29&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_faa2422dcf-4fa744e17f-308203005) before January 27th will be admitted to the launch on a first-come, first-served basis. (First-come, first-served to the venue where the launch is happening, I think, rather than for purchasing the tickets).

The last few years most 'launches' are just a photo op for sponsors with a car that vaguely resembles what teams unveil for testing.

I don't really mind.  As a fan, I don't NEED to know how many winglets are on the vertical surface of the endplate of the bargeboards.  Just show me something swoopy with four wheels and a cool paint job.

Even when a car is truly 'unveiled' for testing, how often does THAT car end up on the starting grid at Melbourne?  They usually change the angle of the third air channel on the horizontal diffuser on the middle of the anterior sub wing.  I mean, who would even WANT to see that horrid old channel that is 1.5 degrees out of alignment?

The sooner, the better (as I have little cars to paint before 17th March).  Of course, a couple of seasons ago, Force India messed me around with their late change to "The Pink Panther" ... as from memory, I 'think' they ran the silver/orange/black livery in testing that season??

You sure it was FIF1, just because the car was miles adrift from anything else it could easily have been a McLaren covered in oil from the Honda lump.   :P :D

However, these "leaks" or "pre-season" testing colours rarely reach the grid on race day.

I love the look, but the sponsorship looks cluttered.  If I was paying to put my name on an F1 car, I wouldn't want to be part of that 'Where's Waldo' scheme.

I think it was mostly silver with black trim. It looked like a cross between a McLaren and a desperate plea for sponsors.

I have "paint jobs" to carry out for the F1 Dream Team each season, so these last minute changes are a real pain in the ankles!!  |-(

I thought HAAS looked pretty good in 2018, so another change of paint job isn't ideal in my book - but understand that teams don't change the look of their cars on a whim, so see how it goes!

Apparently Cal it is going to be white, black and turquoise, based largely I believe on a teaser countdown on their social media.  There is some talk of a communications company becoming the title sponsor, possibly BT given they have mysteriously vanished from the team's partners list.  Another possibility is it will be a US Telecommunications company.

So, you which particular straw was it that broke this particular camel's back in relation to your long term support of Williams?

... I guess when Massa left and Stroll/Sirotkin became the teams best hopes, in a car that turned to ... well, you know the rest friend!!

I'll always have a soft spot for them, but they need a serious kick up the bum and some respectable new talent behind the wheel.

To be honest another season of Stroll and Sirotkin may have tried my patience, but persevering through Maldonado, Bruno Senna and Kazuki Nakajima (who to be fair has gone on to have a fantastic career outside of F1) helped build a tolerance for dross!  At least with Kubica and Russell there is some excitement, a real talent who maybe still has most of his ability after injury and the F2 champion.

Here's the latest countdown teaser that people are going off to guess the livery...

Hey, I followed Williams on Twitter, so can I be on the car???

I'm not fussy, I would be happy with "THATSCOTTISHGUYWHOMOVEDTOWESTERNCANADAANDISASUCKERFORTHINGSF1.COM"

Do I have a chance of getting that sticker on the 2019 nose of the Williams? ... I'd even settle for the Halo, so long as it gets in the way of the onscreen broom broom graphics??

Suspect they feel some others may be using a lot of blue so they want to distinguish their car in head on shots.

To update my initial reaction on the Williams shots above.  I was searching for the low nose angle (which I usually do at this time of year for my car "paint jobs") ... and I found this image below.

I will admit, I don't mind the front of the car's livery ... it's everything else that seems cluttered and lacks blending.

Best Regards,
Cal :)

I think it will look right when in the context of the FW42 as opposed to slapped onto last year's car.

Very True Luke!!

I think it's growing on me a little, like I say, I'm starting to like the front wing section and nose on "this" car, so once it's all finalised, maybe it will look 20% better?

I wish all teams went with jet black and a team name on the rear wing ... I know, that's my paint head talking, I'll get there!!  :lazy:

Cal :)

Was it worth rushing home from work Luke?

Do you think this is a one time only RBR colour scheme and we can expect a different look at the 1st GP, or is it just a one year thing?   Anyways it really is a big change for Red Bull.

The Merc looks a lot like the Williams scheme in its colour proportions, maybe Paddy had some sketches of their scheme on his car seat when he took James Allison to Sunday lunch.  ;)

All those hints and prophecies about moving away from silver are dashed. More black than I expected though.

Yes, it is always worth rushing home from work  :DD  To be honest my day was so quiet I was able to leave earlier and get home by lunch.  All good!

The Mercedes was never likely to be anything other than silver.  The details on the engine cover are nice in photos, but will be lost on track.  It's okay.  Red Bull, one off... I think it is for today only.  Red Bull are terribly dull with their liveries in season given their 'cutting edge' attitude they keep trying to peddle!

Well RP is not as pink as it was last term, I also detect a lot of black lower down and at the back a la Williams, maybe it's a group thing for Merc powered cars.
They can't have all had Sunday lunch with Paddy.  ;)

Yes, they strongly hinted a few weeks back that it would stay mostly pink (think I posted this somewhere?).

To be honest, I get really annoyed with Red Bull's "one day only" livery, as it doesn't help my needs one little bit!!!! ... I think a couple of years ago, their launch showed a kind of netting/web all over the car, of course, not even close to the more traditional livery, come race day!!

GRRRRRR.

On a pleasant note, great job Merc ... like the advancements from last year's look!!   :good:

You bet it does.  I didn't fully realise this, until I painted my "little cars" ... all of a sudden, when I reduced the scale to approx. 1/3rd size, the Williams did indeed resemble the Mercedes.  Just let's hope when I start painting the new Merc, I can make them look identifiable to their respective teams!?!?

But ... I would like a similar angle for the Merc, as this photo is too high >>>

Sorry Force India ... Racing Point ... Sport Pesa!!!!

But ... that looks like an explosion in a paint factory (50 tins of pink, 10 tins of white and a sole tin of royal blue).

Still looking at Renault and HAAS as the best paint jobs of the week so far. Okay, Mercedes is a decent improvement from the 2018 livery.

So ... what can we expect from McLaren's launch tomorrow?

A) The typical orange beacon, with some new graphics, especially yellow bits from their new sponsor?
B) Less orange and 1 mammoth red love heart for Valentine's Day ... why not, Red Bull aren't giving us much!!

Not bad McLaren, Not bad!!

So, essentially, a progressive look from 2018, with new sponsorship and more blue on board.  I thought there would be a hint of yellow somewhere, but there you go, not bad.

I thought that when I first saw the pictures of the McLaren.
Can only assume its an area they can exploit outside the heavily restricted boxed off areas the FIA imposes for most of the car.
We'll find out if it's considered a real gain if we see others jump on the bandwagon a few races in.

Surprised it's not Red Bull giving it wings.  :D

It looks odd to me, the bargeboard stuff looks completely different to the other cars and yes, those odd winglet things are not pleasant.  I feel the livery is a step backwards from last year.

It doesn't feel like the McLaren I used to know from the Hakkinen days.

Yes indeed Guys!

These 'special' launches are getting a bit silly .. and pointless to some degree.  Temporary paint jobs on newish cars, or new paint jobs on old cars.

There, that's another 1% of my moaning allocation of the day used up!!  :DD

So, C'mon Ferrari, are we going to see Red today?

I'm sure it's just the lighting in that photo, but it looks like a red post card, which has been left out in the sun too long.

I like the added black, as they had a few years back.   I "think" I liked the car when Alonso drove for Ferrari (the Red, some white and some black).  So, this is almost a return to that scheme - almost!

Cal :)

The matt finish makes the car look very dull and boring. I know this is supposed to make the car faster but if that was true wouldn't all the teams be doing it?

... talking of "Number 1" driver.   I just noticed this morning, as I started to work on my 2019 Ferrari car image, there is no driver number on the car, where other teams have typically placed their No1 (debatable) driver number on the launch photos.

It this typical Ferrari protocol, can't say I gave it any thought until now?

They want the focus to be on their sponsors rather than their unacceptably high number (by this point, they really wanted #1 on their cars, not #5 or #16).

I don't follow your logic on that comment ... aren't the driver #s simply a predetermined driver preference and not any other system as seen in the past?

Title: Re: 2019 F1 Car Launch Dates

I think the reality is in recent years Ferrari have done all their launches without the car being dressed up for a particular driver.  They all launch without names and numbers.  Although in line with what Ali said above, in 2008 they launched with the number 1 proudly displayed on their car after Kimi won the championship the previous year.

I believe the WDC is entitled to use the #1 in place of his chosen number for the length of the following season. Hamilton just prefers 44 for some reason. If Vettel wins, I think Ferrari would pressure him to go with #1. That said I also think Vettel would want #1 anyway.
Title: Re: 2019 F1 Car Launch Dates
Post by: guest3164 on February 16, 2019, 08:45:19 AM
Yes, you are entirely correct Lonny about the number situation.  I think Hamilton has said he now feels no connection to Number 1 as his designated number of choice is 44 and he wants to stick with it to keep his brand going.  Which makes sense after the rule was brought in to give drivers a permanent number really.

But yeah, I also sense Vettel would want 1 on his!

Title: Re: 2019 F1 Car Launch Dates
Post by: Calman on February 16, 2019, 07:53:40 PM
I would like to think that most drivers would turn away from having #1 on their car, simply for the reason that the number they do choose, has sentimental value in so many ways (the number on the car of their first win, a number connected to family ties, location or local importance, a special year in your life or something along those lines).

I seem to remember a movie, where a race driver was superstitious about the number on the car and wouldn't race, if he could race with that number .... I also think there was an American Football and Baseball movie with a similar plot.

Cal :)
