Title: Glad to be alive, and back
Post by: Alianora La Canta on November 27, 2019, 08:51:27 PM
Sorry for missing most of the last month here. I didn't want to, but I had a major abdominal operation (laparotomy, for an appendectomy, an oophorectomy and a salpingectomy). I was given a 24% chance of dying in the process, plus some chance of major complications.

Thankfully, the medical teams did a great job of looking after me. I spent about 2 1/2 weeks in hospital, in 4 different wards. I missed the US Grand Prix... ...and thankfully was discharged just in time for the Brazillian qualifying. (Seeing two of "my" three go out after such a trivial touch was bad enough without having to pay the entertainment partner of the hospital £10 for the privilege).

I am now recovering at my parents' house. This will take weeks, but I get stronger each day, and I am glad to be back.

Thank you! I hope the same. Touch wood, I do not look like having the sort of complications the medics worried about.

Wow, get well soon Ali.  Appendix problems are very scary.  My cousin had his practically explode at our rural cottage.  Had my uncle and aunt not recognized it and delayed the 45min ride to the hospital, it might have been tragic.  Glad you’re on the road to recovery.

Thank you, Scott! Thankfully, by the time my appendix burst, I was already in the Fragile Ward at hospital, because the symptoms I had triggered a load of tests (they were partway through them when the burst happened). So it was relatively little work to get me downstairs to surgery.

Dang, Ali, You have had a rough time of it! I'm very glad that you came though it all. I hope you're back to full speed very, very soon.  :good:

That all sounds really unpleasant and I am very pleased to hear that you are okay.  I wish you a rapid and safe recovery.

Alia I'm sure you're glad to be alive - and long may it continue. :good:

I'm also sure everyone here is equally glad you're still alive and kicking, where else will we get such informed answers on questions about seemingly impenetrable FIA rules, regs, opaque political decisions, scrutineering, long term standing practice and muddled stewarding decisions of F1.

Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery.  :-*
