F1 History / Re: Gilles and Didlier« Last post by cosworth151 on May 11, 2024, 07:47:45 PM »Back in the 60's and earlier, there was no pit lane. The pits were at the side of the track with no barriers of any kind between the pit crews and the full speed race cars.
Here's the pits at Sebring in 1961. I don't think those hay bails would have stopped an out of control race car. 6

Anyone who has bought a beer and a hot dog at any major sports event will understand that.
