Title: Super Aguri looking for third driver rule change

Super Aguri will only use a test driver on grand prix Fridays next year if the F1 Commission agrees to change the rules. The small Leafield based team's managing director Daniele Audetto hit out at the new FIA regulation for 2007 which bans the use of a third car on the first day of free practice.

Super Aguri is yet to appoint a test driver for 2007. “With only two cars, I won't give an advantage by running a test driver [while other teams use] regular drivers,“ the BBC quoted him as saying. He added: “If you use a young test driver [on Friday], you will be less competitive for setting up the car for qualifying and the race.“

Audetto, who claims to have the support of Bernie Ecclestone and Max Mosley for modifying the regulation, proposes that teams be compelled to rest at least one race driver on Fridays, so that using a tester is effectively mandatory. He said: “[Otherwise] I think very few teams will give a chance to a test driver on Friday. We have almost closed the door to potential new drivers.“

The F1 Commission will meet in Monaco next week.
