Title: Audi Will Attend F1 Engine Meeting
Post by: cosworth151 on March 30, 2017, 12:27:08 PM
It looks like all of the rumors about VW getting into F1 might actually come to something. The website Spox.com reports that WV's Audi brand will attend a forthcoming meeting about the future of Formula 1's engine regulations.

After almost 2 decades at the top of endurance racing, Audi left that sport in favor of WV stablemate Porsche. This would be a good way to get the Audi brand back into top shelf motorsports. I hope it happens.

Another variation on the grid can't be a bad thing :D

I would love Audi/VW to come to F1.  I hope they don't just show as an engine manufacturer though...buy or build a team.

I expect that this will be a courtesy meeting, due to the changing of the guard. Whether this results in anything beyond that will depend entirely on how the meeting goes. Optimum result would be Audi joining in 2020 as a full team (they're not really geared to be an engine-only provisioner). Worst-case is that they will decide the structural and attitudinal issues of the previous administration remain, and write off a return for the next 15 years.

This could explain Audi's venture into Formula E. A relatively low cost way to gain open wheel experience without entering a traditional development series.
