Title: Schumi in for Massa
Post by: Andy B on July 29, 2009, 06:40:30 PM
His manager said it would not happen but I think it is great news that Michael Schumacher will take Filipe Massa's seat at least for Valencia.
I'm sure there will be more to this story. :yahoo:

Well, blow my socks off - I never imagined it would happen.  Well, I guess that is another scenario that will help ticket sales at Valencia.  Can't wait!  Doesn't he have to get a Superlicense?

He probably does have to apply for a superlicense but should prove no problem for the stewards or FIA or whoever.

Just consider if you had to make a judgement about granting a license to a nineteen year old with no F1 experience or Schumi who would you say is more fit to get the nod to step in mid season?

I for one will be glad to see the main man back and I'm sure if he makes too big a pigs ear of it he will be the first to see the error of coming back and not carry on.

Both Prost and Lauda have made comebacks, cream will always try to rise even if it sometimes finds things in the way.

This exciting news.  A silver lining to a dark week in Formula One.

Now we just need to persuade Renault to replace Piquet Jr with Piquet Sr.

It is a shame it is in these circumstances, but I cannot wait to see Schumi racing again.

I was in a meeting today until 7.30pm and when I got back to the car there was three text messages on my phone telling me the news. I guess my pals know how big a Schumi fan I am.

I can't express how happy I am that we will see Michael Schumacher drive an F1 car again, even if it is for just one race. It is like a dream. I really hope he does well and doesn't wreak the god like status he holds with me. I couldn't bare to see the great man fail.

The greatest driver driving for the greatest team once again. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

The report said 'Valencia and beyond' meaning likely the rest of the sesaon.  I don't think anyone seriously expects Massa to return this season.  We'll have him battling Kimi, which is going to be absolutely fantastic.  Hamilton always said he's sorry he didn't get to race against him, same with Kubica.  Well, now they will have their chance.

Let's just hope he behaves  :DntKnw:

I was never a fan of schumacher when he was racing probably because he was beating my favourite drivers at the time but i cant wait to see him back. Ive got a funny feeling hes gonna do something spectacular and win the race and prove hes still the best out there. I cant wait for Valencia now its just gonna make the wait seem even longer.

the question has always been.... is it the car, or is it the driver?
 i think we'll soon know :)

imagine how Kimi must be feeling!!

awesome~

The only person he has to beat is Kimi anyone else is a bonus.
On the down side I am working so will miss all the practices. :(

Wow, talk about motivation...£3million per race!  He's going to come home with Kimi's paycheque with only half a season of racing.  Plus as a bonus Ferrari will continue his £5m per season advisor's role (I wonder if that includes this season which would mean he easily beats Kimi's annual income this year).

Can't wait for the show...I'm sure Bernie is walking around with a perpetual smile and dollar signs in his eyes for the TV payout...imagine what the merchandising is going to come in at too.  And if by chance he wins all 7 races and Button doesn't get another point and Vettel/Webber only a few, he could actually get the 8th title (ok, I guess that's a bit over the top).

Sure will take the pressure off the FIA president battle, which hopefully will move to the background for the rest of the season.

And, like Dare said, with this news, I couldn't care a less about BMW leaving (but like Jeri, I won't be buying a BMW anytime soon - I'll stick to my VW, which I can afford).

It will be interesting to see how he does. It's been 2 1/2 years since he last raced in F1, and 4 1/2 since his last championship.

Certainly an exciting prospect!

However, it is more realistic to entertain thoughts of a Ferrari WCC.

Even still, I'd like to see Brawn get the constructors... just a little oomph to prove know how counts for something still.

He just needs to have his front wing element made of iron and he can punt those pesky Brawn's and Red Bull's out of the way.

List of challenges for Schumacher:

Not that there's any doubt in my mind that Schumi can overcome them.  Just makes for a fascinating narrative.

I wish I could fly to Valencia to watch this all live!!

I'm afaird that, unless it rains and Sutil shunts again, Valencia will just be a parade. I hope Schumi is still around for Spa.

Also, since Monaco has already been run, he won't have to worry about mistaking La Rascasse for Park Ferme again!

But! His last drive in Brazil I believe was one of his best.
After the puncture his pace was stunning although there was no reason to do so.

Andy, his last race in Brazil was probably the finest F1 driving I've ever seen :good:

List of challenges for Schumacher:

  • Valencia, Singapore and Abu Dhabi are new circuits to him.
  • KERS is new to him.
  • The slick tires are certainly a wild card.  He was the first one testing the new slicks, and he did race on slicks for many years
  • Nobody habitually gets out of the way when a red car appears in their mirrors
  • Despite FIA efforts to slow cars down, Sebastian Bourdais' times this season were better than Michael Schumacher's in 2006

He has to pass one less Schumacher car this time (Ralf won't be there for the first time in years).

With all the action in Hungary, Massa's off and Lewis being at the front for a change, etc, I obviously failed to notice Ralf making his way backwards through the field as usual.  :o

I'll have to visit specsavers sharpish  :D :D :DD

Jeri's list certainly covers most of the salient points. Also, he's never driven this car that I know of, he's not in Schumi shape (this is particularly true of his neck muscles), this is the least competitive Ferrari in years. Lauda and Prost came back to superior cars, MS won't. I admit I never liked MS, frankly I hope he joins Toro Rosso at the back of the grid. As for his being the best driver ever, not even close. Not in my top 5.

Well Ik I think Schumi must have read your post he is currently testing driving a 2007 car at Maranello to get miles under his belt to become race fit and has also been spending time on the simulator which will get him up to speed with the new buttons on the steering wheel.
As for your comment about coming back to a lesser car when he joined Ferrari it was a lesser car and he was a key part of their development, as for being at the back of the grid I doubt that even though its possible for a variety of reasons. I, along with many others believe he will get more out of the car so Kimi needs to get his act together which I do think is unlikely.

I won't be putting him as my Pole Pick until I see him on track in Friday practice. There's no question that Schumi was the best driver of his day, but I think that day may be gone. His 2006 Brazil race was an epic drive, but most of his drives in 2005 and 2006 were lackluster at best.

Now he's got permission to test the F60, I suspect he'll do much better. :(
