Title: Ridiculously Complicated Tesla Door Handle
Post by: cosworth151 on December 22, 2017, 09:07:38 PM
Here's a video on the Tesla's outside door handle. It's a very complicated (and, I would guess, very expensive) mechanism that doesn't perform any useful function any better than the ones on my 1961 Falcon station wagon did.

Of course it performs a useful function:  it allows Tesla to overinvest in engineers so they always have teams with competing ideas on how to make their products better where it counts.  If making a $500 door handle leads to shaving $3000 off the drive train, then that's a very good investment.

The guy told to make a $0.30 lever is going to leave for another company instead of proving he should work on the ERS

Just took all the magic out of those doorhandles for me...I thought they were wild, now they are just a waste of plastic and electrical wiring.
