Its always sad news when an F1 Forum closes its doors and by the looks of it the relaunch of the pitlane club has not gone as planned.
Lets hope their admins manage to keep the site afloat or at the very least their members manage to find a great community such as ours.
Farewell Pitlane Club.
-
Bye Bye
-
Someone should tell the adm. at Pit Lane f1 communities
aren't built in under 2 months.
Feel sorry for the members who signed on there.their always
welcome here
-
I always thought this site was formed by one of our own members ?

I signed up for Pit Lane chapter 2 (never had heard of it before he announced it here), but it was much a re-hash of what was said here (but with a lot fewer posts), and I didn't see the point in saying everything twice. No Grid Game though...

Hi,
Im a new member, just registered and a refugee from The Pitlane Club (andy). After they asked if anyone wanted to continue the forum I actually offered to host it for free when it was announced it was closing but the administration didn't bother replying.
But someone else on there recommended this place, so I thought I would give it a go.

You're most welcome Andy,
Stick around, you won't find a more welcoming F1 forum anywhere (if you do then I want to know about it :D)
Have fun!
-
Welcome Gen - you should enjoy it here, lot's of knowledgable and opinionated (but not harsh) people.
-
Hi Andy good to have you with us, hope you enjoy posting and taking part with the rest of us.

Wecome aboard, Andy. Glad to have you. Always room for one more!

Always great to have another new member. I have read some of your stuff and I look forward to your comments here. I was a member of the original pitlane forum and that really was an excellent bunch of people some of whom are still around here.
-
Welcome to GPWizard Andy.
Have a look around. We have a few members from the
last Pitlane, mod Steven Roy being one
Hope you like what you see and have many returns

me too SD, this is the 3rd time the PitLane forum has crashed and while I do not enjoy any F1 forum going down, more time and thought how to interest and attract more activity has to be made.
our forum is hard to beat; I believe it has the right approch to robust debate and opposing opinions while prohibiting personal attacks etc.
perhaps this is why it has attracted 'real F1 fans' and is part of the reasons it flourishes; it is very well managed and moderated by knowledgable and passionate people who have built a lot of extra features into the site to cater for a range of motorsport interests and who keep thinking of ways and means to improve the mix.
so to all our moderators: well done guys and gals, we appreciate the work and thought you make in running GPWizard!
welcome andy, your 'General Disorder' nickname is brilliant btw!
-
Thanks Sennaman, the forum is for the members.
If anyone has any ideas how to improve or
wants to add something bring it to our
attention
-
Welcome to GPWizard, General Disorder. Hope you enjoy contributing to the forum here :)
-
Thank you for your kind words Sennaman.
Well done to all who make GPWiz possible, the Moderators, the Grid Game organisers and all the members. Without every piece of the jigsaw the picture would not be complete, you all make GPWizard totally unique.
-
Aw, thanks Wiz! :-[

I really should post here more than I do, I just didn't want to get too much into a new F1 forum in case it went the way of the old Pit Lane. I was there for a while and a big poster there, even trying to help out with the hosting fees (I believe a couple of people did that). This place though is much more active.
-
They seem to run into the same problem with every incarnation of that forum. It's a shame because they always seem to have some good posters. I hope if it does go down again a few of them come here.

No fear of us going anywhere Williamsfan, we are well on our way to our 3rd year and we are still going strong. :D

As has already been said, it's sad when an f1 forum site goes down, but, there is an old saying.......When one door closes an even better one beckons, namely GPWizard.

The problem is, the guy who runs it is only interested in one thing, trying to make money out of it. The problem is that he doesn’t now how to make money out of it, and doesn’t have the money or skills to invest in it to turn it into a real business and so it continues to fail time after time. Chris' words to me for the reason why he was shutting it down when I offered to take it over were "I am fully hosted with 1+1 but need the hosting for another venture" which will probably be some other spin off of the Grand Prix Marketplace.
Anyway ...
Thanks for all the welcome messages, I have recommended to people on there that they should give this place a go.

I'm sure I'll soon end my lurker period and get back into posting. 2008 hasn't had much to cheer about for my boys which hasn't helped either :good:
-
We actually have a thread for Pit Lane members to introduce themselves to this forum. It has been running since the first iteration died and my first post here was on that thread. It will also let anyone thinking of moving over see who they are likely to bump into here. Some of the people on that thread are still active and some like johnbull pop in on a regular basis even though he is an important FIA official now.

competition,they say

-
They said last week it was going to stay open until the end of the year.
You can't keep opening and closing.
I hope anyone from there who is looking for a forum finds there way here.
-
I'm with you on that Steven, you can't keep
leading the members on
Wiz has built a nice little community slowly
but with good people, but were always
looking for a few good men and ladies

Hurling guilt at your members doesn't get you anywhere either -
"On a day where we have just had the most exciting qualifying session in years the fact that there has not been a single post on the forums shows me that the forum is fighting a losing battle and no amount of nagging posters to post is going to make the forum a success, having Googled 34 different F1 forums The Pitlane Club was the only F1 forum to have not a single post so the demand and interest in Pitlane Club is simply not there to justify its continuation"
Maybe 33 forums are enough?
I lurk on others, but this is the only one I post on. Keep it up, Wiz!

exactly SD - the guilt thing attitude has to be replaced with the owner(s) thinking:
"how can we make this site attract and keep quality members?"
in other words what can we GIVE? and far less of the TAKE.
