The VW ID.R has been beaten with a ridiculous time of 39.081 seconds. Max drove the McMurtry Spéirling electric fan car on the 1.16-mile course, within the grounds of Goodwood House, at an average speed of 149.13mph, beating VW's best previous time by .82 of a second.

Kinda looks a bit like the Batmobile don't ya think?

I was first introduced to 'Hill Climbs' as offroaders driving up a cliff face.

For years I assumed that 'Pike's Peak' was just a bunch of European red necks racing up a pile of rocks that F1 drivers would do for fun (like NASCAR or IndyCar racers doing local fair dirt tracks)

That, looks like great fun Jeri, however in Britain that's more akin to Trialing/Off Roading rather than Hill Climbs.

There is a real history in the UK of paved road course Hill Climbs tracks where all comers compete for the best time in any road car they bring, even specially built or adapted ones.

This is a old fashioned British car Trialing using especially built cars up hill and down dale over an off road course:-

Or this even more bizarre vintage mud plugging car trial. Who'd have believed you could get so many owners to run these old cars over such a course - crazy or what?
