Title: Red Bull stop 2021 F1 driver market roundabout by signing Max
Post by: John S on January 07, 2020, 12:24:49 PM
With a 3 year deal now signed for Max's services until 2023 Red Bull have effectively ended any silly season hypothetical scenarios, or indeed any poaching from top teams.
No brainer from RBR to lock up their best driver I guess.

The only remaining talking point is whether Lewis is really serious about driving a red car.   :DntKnw:

I don't follow European sports, but for the longest time in North American sports, players would spend their entire career for the same team.  It's far less common now, but superstars tend to stay with the same team for their careers.

Grand Prix drivers have been notoriously mercenary though.  Short contracts leading them to hop from team to team.  Most multiple WDCs have earned them for different teams.  It would be interesting to see drivers settle down and drive for a team for their entire career.

My two favorites were exactly opposite on this. Fangio won his 5 WDC's for 4 different teams: Alfa, Mercedes (2), Ferrari and Maserati.

On the other side, I can't even imagine Jim Clark in any class of open wheel race car that wasn't built by Lotus. (F1, F2, Indy & Tasman Series) He even won the 1964 British Saloon Car title in a Lotus Cortina.
