With a short video about designing for the Mercedes powerplant.

A good looking car. Interesting to see some of the new aero package for the first time. I hope the return to Merc power moves them up the standings.
-
Nice job getting it all together with a change of power plant - and oh look there's Coca Cola stamped right on the midriff. :D
Heard talk that Honey Badger's big bum was too tight a fit in the new MCL35M, :o turns out it was more to do with seat than tub so they've now managed to ease his big hips into it more comfortably. :good:

Did they switch to the medallion style nose for aero reasons or just because they are using Merc power?

Think it's more to do with this being James Key's first McLaren car, last year's MCL34 was already laid out by Pat Fry by time James joined.
Now Pat has moved on to Renault/Alpine, but again maybe it'll be too early to see any real influence from him on Alpine's 21 challenger, we'll have to wait and see.
-
If all the cars were lined up in black only they would all look identical and we'd struggle to see who's is who's in fact maybe even the drivers would not be able to pick them out.

Has Coke ever been a sponsor before?
I agree Andy. The only difference is how much
money you have to spend to get the fastest car

Yes Dare, last year on McLaren. :-*
Yeah I know it was so small most of us missed it, me included. ::)
This year it is 4 times as big so it is more noticeable, similar position on Macca car as last year but other logos near it have disappeared making it stand out now.

Wonder what other soft drink [some call it pop here] have
been F1 sponsors? Their worldwide and Lord knows they
should the cash.
Another tidbit John. In some parts of the US when you want
a soft drink of any kind you'll call it a Coke no matter what it is.

7 Up was one of Jordan's first sponsors. Royal Crown sponsored both Can-Am & Bud Moore's NASCAR entry.

While I'm not a fan of 'spec' power units per se, I'd like to see F1 have a standard layout, so any team could use any power unit. It's all well and good to be a Mercedes/Ferrari/Renault customer, but when you have to redesign your car to fix an engineering scheme meant to benefit someone else's car, it compromises the sport a little.
(If it were up to me, I wouldn't allow engine suppliers to be constructors as well... except that means breaking up Ferrari which probably isn't worth the effort.)
-
I guess Mercedes splitting the turbo to put intake and exhaust fans at opposite ends of the block means the engine sits slightly farther back. He also said the cooling layouts for the 2 engines are quite different. There are some pretty obvious differences in the engine cover area of the bodywork.

Royal Crown always makes me think of this 'Onion' article

I used to like 7up, but then they changed it (in Canada, at least) into a Sprite clone. If I want Sprite, I'll have Sprite. (I do like Sprite, but I preferred the older 7up)

Found this interesting video of Danny Ric having his first sit down in the new Macca chassis.
With all the faffing about with the seat I half expected him to comment 'Does my bum look big in this' :D
