Title: Qualfying Changes
Post by: Wizzo on July 10, 2006, 08:38:57 PM
Formula One bosses have proposed yet another change to the qualifying rules outlawing the third car in practice.

The law-change would come into force by next week's French Grand Prix if given the go-ahead after team bosses were faxed the proposals. In the new regime the two 15 minute runs followed by a 20 minute shoot-out would be scrapped in favour of three equal 15 minute runs.

At present the teams which finished outside the top four in last year's standings can run a third car in practice.

Honda team manager Nick Fry told Autosport magazine that this was a waste of everybody's time. "Fans get a raw deal on Fridays as a lot of the race drivers don't even run and they're the guys they have paid to see.

"When they do (run), the times they set are nearly always pretty meaningless. Secondly, the savings for us are potentially huge. We could almost halve our testing spend."
