I'm sad to report the demise of the civilian Ford Crown Victoria. Ford has announced that the 2008 Crown Victoria will be sold only through fleet sales. America's favorite cop car and cab will continue, but it will not be sold to individuals.
The full sized, body-on-frame, live rear axle V8 sedan can, in many ways, trace its origins back to the Model T. It was the last low-end car of its kind. It is survived by its higher priced stablemates, the Mercury Grand Marque and Lincoln Town Car.
The 2008 Crown Vic Police Interceptor has a few new features for the upcoming model year. The 4.6L V8 is flex-fuel compatible and will run on E85, a tire pressure monitoring system is now standard equipment, and remote keyless entry is now offered as an option. It will no longer be sold in Driftwood Beige (good for us, because we find the beige cars to be essentially invisible when parked roadside), and 3.55 gears will not be available on 50-state-emissions-legal cruisers.
it has been speculated that it will be replaced by something based on Ford's Interceptor show car. It is based on a stretched Mustang platform.
I and my family have owned several of the cars. I still have a 1966 Galaxie 500.
It will be missed.
