Big brother technology that can tell if your car is going too fast and can cut power to the engine are being trialled. The devices have GPS and a road speed database that identifies speed limits.
Apparently and unsurprisingly the Australian government has been keen to keep the technology under wraps for fear of a backlash from the public. The bad news is if it works there it will no doubt be looked at very keenly by the UK Government.
The speed-limiting devises are reportedly being trialled in Victoria and could be used to slow down reckless drivers permanently.
It is understood three government ministers, the chief commissioner of police, a former state coroner and 45 other participants will drive cars fitted with devices as part of a trial that started in Victoria in December.
The technology is said to have three levels.
The first level beeps when the driver goes too fast, the second cuts power to the engine and the last one stops the car going over the limit in the first place.
While the Government declined to comment, Queensland Transport Minister John Mickel is said to have confirmed his state was involved in talks.
‘Technology is evolving all the time with these things, and my view with road safety is to see what the latest technology is and see if it can improve safety,’ he said.

This Technology is gonna hurt my driving times if it gets implemented.... I save anywhere upto 30 minutes travel in 400km... this technology makes me scared and sad in my lead-foot.
