It barely worked that time. It wouldn't work now, because the sort of people who can spend £100,000 on the first year of karting can't do that by dividing their attention between multiple jobs. (I think Anthony Hamilton himself concentrated on one job, once his IT consultancy took off).

I think it is theoretically possible for a non-millionaire to make it to F1, but it would have to be through the parents (or another close relative) having that £100 k available upfront and then being so amazing that a rich sponsor or three covers the rest. (Most likely, that would require impressing the right manager, although a family with the right contacts might not need them). Certainly, nobody middle-class or working-class who doesn't have a great manager or rich sponsor in their contact list need apply.

That's quite a birthday present! Did you do a few runs around the neighborhood to finish off the mileage limit?  ;)

I did have about 8km to spare but then realised I was supposed to return it with the same fuel level so went back out to get fuel  :DD

A good car to have even for a day, how many miles did you put on it?

There was a 250km limit. I did 248km  8)
Well done you.

Had this little beastie for the day yesterday (and a quick blast this morning), as a slightly delayed birthday present. A very fun time was had  >:D

One funny moment - we went to a posh hotel out in the desert for lunch and a coffee and valet parked. When it came to leaving I gave the valet the ticket and waited in the lobby. After about five minutes he came back and said I can't find the key/car. Can you tell me the plate number? I said, no I can't. No idea. It's a black Lamborghini. To which he goes, oh that one, it's right over here  :D He'd been looking in the car park but it had been parked right on the turning circle in the fancy pants spot  :yahoo:

I don't think you have to be a millionaire but if you aren't you
better hope your parents are

As most start at a very young age it would need to be parents although Anthony Hamilton had up to four jobs for him to compete in karting but I'm unsure if that is viable now?
