Sauber has asked the FIA to investigate cockpit safety in connection to an incident at Sepang. A piece of debris hit Perez's car. He was saved by the object hitting the ECU. At first, it was thought that it was ballast from a Torro Rosso. It was later discovered that the STR car had sustained damage from the object, too. Nothing was missing from the STR car.

That was a strange one, I wouldn't mind hearing an explanation for it. Must have been something of great mass to cause damage to two cars.

Very strange that no one seems to know what hit both cars, surely the track marshalls must have found something in the relevant section either on or off the track after the race? :confused:

If you came across a chunk of an F1 car, would you put it on your mantle or turn it over to the FIA?

If it came off an F1 car, then one of the cars should have been seriously underweight in Parc Ferme. If not, maybe it was still there from one of the support races. It certainly needs a lot of investigation.
