Great stuff Dare thanks for posting. That brings back some memories from my youth when I would watch every race I could. I think it was always on ABC sports wasn't it?

Yes, it's always been on ABC. It used to be tape delay in prime time. That started in 1965. The live broadcasts started in 1986. Jim McKay hosted it for years. He also did ABC's F1 coverage in the 60's and 70's on ABC's Wide World of Sports. Check out Johnson's excellent Indy 500 site for his page on the subject.

The current guy, Marty Reid, got his start as the second string sportscaster at the NBC station up in Columbus, OH.
