Title: Lewis telemetry data tweet - fair gamesmanship or spoilt brat?
Post by: John S on September 02, 2012, 03:52:06 PM

Should team act further on confidence breach?

Till Now Lewis acted very wisely in many different issue, which is unlikely of Lewis, but after McLaren head suggested that Lewis is their front-runner, he is acting really weird and trying to prove his point quite desperately.

And being shunted by Romain didn't helped that bit at all.

I don't know what idea it was from Lewis to tweet the telemetry in his twitter account. Telemetry datas are always secret information (or they should to be), so the team was fast and removed the telemetry data from his twitter site.

Besides the telemetry tweet Lewis also posted whingeing tweets on Saturday evening.

Here's the messages, courtesy Planetf1.com:-

'Damn, WTF!! Jenson has the new rear wing on, I have the old. We voted to change, didn't work out. I lose 0.4 tenths just on the straight,' he wrote.

'Nothing I could do. Now, it's about picking up every point I can from there. Jenson should win easy with that speed.'

The tweets were removed a couple of hours later, but Lewis was at it again on Sunday morning, this time posting the telemetry data.  ::)

Some Englishman seems to be in the thick of things regarding to tweeting. First it was Kevin Pieterson in the Cricket who got things difficult for himself and the team mates, and now Lewis Hamilton, irrational and hot-headed. I wonder he is having some issue with is PR team, because these are the same signs last year, that was Baggage to him. Hope he realize that as soon as possible.

Spoilt brat.  However there isn't much the team can do that they haven't already.  Hamilton's immaturity is certainly well known within the team, they just have to handle him delicately.

More realistically they will figure out who actually let him walk away with the telemetry sheet in the first place.  If it is so secret, they certainly have procedures for the paper trail already in place.

It's not like Jenson got the only new wing available, Lewis had one and his group decided not to use it. Whether they thought he would be faster overall by being faster in sector 2 or might gain an advantage in tire performance during the race, it was their decision, not a Red Bull situation.

Putting the telemetry on Twitter was careless beyond belief. I can see why McLaren would let Lewis have the sheet in the first place - the more committed drivers in F1 routinely study them in the hotel as "homework" - but discretion is normally the watchword. You can learn a lot from a trace, especially one that has been helpfully "annotated".

If McLaren has convinced Lewis that this serious breach of security must not be repeated, and explained to him how to keep information secure, I don't think anything else will need to be done on that side of the matter. However, he does seem to be having trouble keeping his social networking as he would like, so perhaps he would also benefit from going on a course (yes, there are one- and two-day courses on professional use of Twitter)?

Bloody stupid thing to do. I heard Hamilton harping on his rear wing in the post quali interviews. That should have been enough for him.

I find it hard to fathom that an F1 driver of Hamilton's calibre would actually release top-secret telemetry data to the public, even in the midst of contract negotiations. Has anyone speculated that this could be a classic case of disinformation with Whitmarsh and Hamilton playing agents provocateurs?

How come he had done such thing, showing the telemetry to the world. Its beyond childish stupidity, and for me beyond words. What was he trying to say? Its you bloody team-mate for God's sake Lewis, and its just another qualifying in the season, not a season ending grand prix where the championship will be decided between you and him.

Hope you keep your composure Lewis.. Don't be another Nelson Piquet Jr.

He's a spoiled brat. He got used to being quick while Jenson struggled and just hated to see the tables turned. He's angry at the team for choosing the wrong wing and anxious to show the world that it's the wing that's the difference and not that Jens is a better driver. Given the way he's behaving, I would seriously consider dropping him if I were McLaren. This is a really serious breach of security. Whitmarsh needs to make it clear that this behavior must stop.

Somewhere else I read that his approaches to Ferrari and RBR have been ignored.  Mclaren is his only chance unless he thinks Mercedes will take him to the top, but again, they might not want him.

Mclaren should hand him a contract to sign and stop negotiating.

Interesting speculation! But I think it's simply a case of Hamilton not thinking. We've seen him mouth off before without applying his brain, notably after Monaco with the 'Maybe it's because I'm black' comment. I think this was the same, just with Twitter. He's immature. Lucky for him he's quick.
