Title: Brazilian Olympic bid threat to F1 GP circuit
Post by: Wizzo on January 10, 2008, 12:19:55 AM

A bid to stage the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil could result in the demolition of the Jacarepagua race circuit which used to host the Formula One Brazilian Grand Prix.

The Brazilian Olympic Committee had previous bids to stage the 2004 and 2012 Games rejected but has submitted a new bid that would use facilities previously built for the Pan-American Games, which were held in Rio in 2007, and would include the demolition of the Jacarepagua circuit which staged the Brazilian F1 GP on 10 occasions from 1978 to 1989 to make way for an Olympic park which would be the base for a number of venues.
