A little poll
« on: September 09, 2020, 10:15:14 PM »
I'm a little curious about our President saying the
UK loving him. This poll is for all members whatever
country you reside in

How can anyone like someone who has the attitude that he has? He is certainly not a statesman and seems to be using the presidency for personal gain. The USA from an outside perspective looks in a bad way with not only C-19 but protests and riots. I, and most likely the majority of the world, cannot understand the gun culture when so many are dying from that privilege being abused.
I have recently been having a discussion with an American cousin about why we, my wife and I, will avoid travelling through the USA when flying. On travelling to Canada we changed our flights to avoid landing in the US due to the attitude of officials who treat everyone as if they are a terrorist or criminal.
Maybe, just maybe the problem with US cops is they watch too many TV shows and think that's how they should act too?
See what you have started?  :stop: :nono:

I hope I don't offend anybody with the poll but Trump
says and thinks the World loves him. I'd just wanted
know what the group thinks of him.

Dare you have boxed us all into a corner, your poll appears innocuous, however no one really likes politicians in general so without the proverbial opt out i.e. 'have no opinion' or 'don't give a flying fart' your proposition lacks any balance and is in danger of the result amounting to faux news.  :D

Seems like in the US you either love or despise him. That's
why the yes or no option. I didn't take the first vote so as
to not show any favoritism

It is an interesting question Dare but much deeper than do we or don't we and as I did it's quite easy to get carried away .
My reply was not intended as a dig at anyone just my perception of the US mainly when traveling through it and to give it some balance I/we are well travelled the only continent we have not visited is South America but it's on the list. We have found in general that most officials be it Police, Customs, Immigration and even security are pleasant and helpful even in China but the US is the exception.

That's what I was opening for the why of the answer
to the question..Trump had said the UK loved him and
a poll I saw said 70 something percent were against him in
the UK. Who knows we could tweet the results to him as he's
a big Twit ter

Donald is mocked in the UK. Even far-right sympathisers who would be expected to favour Donald's policies (and do when anyone else is citing them, including other politicians from the USA) mock Donald himself.

Unfortunately, the British press mistakes the attention from mockers for actual respect and continues to give Donald outsize airplay as a result. So Donald is "loved" in the same sense as people love watching those awful first-round singing contestent fail clip shows...

(I don't like mocking people, so I went with "dislike").

In the current climate, there's no way I would get a visa, and I'm not eligible for the Visa Waiver Programme on account of my disability (I've heard of some autistic people being able to mask long enough to get through customs, but I'm lousy at masking, and given the horror stories I've heard of people being stuck in psychiatric facilities for having autism and one badly-timed "challenging behaviour" incident - that do not change no matter which president is ruling - I would not want to run the risk of being rumbled). In fairness, given stories emerging from the UK, I'd avoid it too if I didn't know from experience how hard it is to actually trigger such a horror story...

I'm surprised by the number of supporters Trump has in Canada.  Like I 'get' that his 'Make America Great' soundbite can appeal to a certain base in people, but... at no point has he ever demonstrated any interest in making Canada great.  It's clear he'd plunder any and all nations he could in order to make America great.

Of course, we know that his supporters aren't really interested in making America great, there's another 'nation' they're truly interested in supporting.  At least if you're American you can pretend you're not a racist, but there's no way to support Trump as a non-American and pretend you're not racist.

Somebody told me the other day that at least heís doing what he said he would do in the campaign.  I blew off a rant listing some of the things he DIDNíT do (the wall paid by Mexico, lock up Hillary Clinton, Health Care, and a hundred other boasts he made during his campaign).  The conversation was short.

I just donít understand how anyone would want to put him up again as their leader after the mockery, criminality and negligence of his first term.  Nothing, not even a Dem, could be as bad as him for another 4.

For the record, yes, if I was an American, I would vote for the donkey.

I am a Canadian living in Mexico. I have traveled extensively in the U.S.A., conducted business, & owned property there, and most of my friends are "gringos", so this poll is of interest to me. It is important to know that it is imbedded in their society to dislike anything tinted with "socialism", or even "liberalism". The American Dream is achieved through personal hard work, without help or handouts from anyone - especially not from the government. Many supporters of Donald Trump love him because he loudly mocks the Democrats as being socialist devils who will take your stuff and give it to some undeserving lazy bum. And he provides free entertainment. Three of my best friends believe everything he says, go figure.   :DntKnw:

I think you're mixing up the two terms as applied in modern day Scott.

Sure the two philosophies share many of the same aims, however in the 20th century, and still today, almost all communist regimes morphed into Totalitarianism - often masking dictatorship.

Socialism remains an acceptable aspirational ideal of levelling up, or downwards looking from a reactionary point of view, within most democratic systems.

No wonder so called free democracies seek to negate/overthrow communist states by variously opposing, challenging or befriending all the time, ironically though it makes both look better to their own kind - go figure.

Vladimir Putin is regarded as a communist by the "modern" definition that you gave (though I would argue he is far from the Marxist conception of communism), and there is evidence he helped Donald get elected.

Socialism is considered much less extreme than communism, hence why it is accepted (and in some countries, considered common sense). Mocking socialism while accepting help from "communism" would only make sense if Donald was mocking socialism for not being communist enough - but that is just about the opposite of the viewpoint Donald portrays.

The result is that it appears - at minimum - that what Donald actually wants is some form of despotism.

I believe this is the point to which Scott refers.
