Author Topic: Nice guys do win F1 world championships & become endurance car legends  (Read 8970 times)

Phil Hill is who we are talking about of course.
But then all the drivers named Hill to win an F1 WDC are/were very nice chaps too.  :good:

Phil won the Formula One World Drivers' Championship in 1961 with Ferrari, and won three Grands Prix across eight seasons.

In endurance racing, Hill was a three-time winner of both the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 12 Hours of Sebring, all with Ferrari. Upon winning the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1964 with NART, Hill became the first driver to complete the Triple Crown of endurance racing.

Racing is Life - everything else is just....waiting. (Steve McQueen)

He also wrote many excellent articles for Road & Track magazine about classic racing & high performance road cars.

He also scored a hat trick in the classic racing movie Grand Prix:

1. He played American F1 driver Tim Randolph
2. He did the actual driving for Brian Bedford's character Scott Stoddard
3. He drove the Ford GT camera car (and actually passed Dan Gurney's Eagle in the pouring down rain during the race at Spa!)
“You can search the world over for the finer things, but you won't find a match for the American road and the creatures that live on it.”
― Bob Dylan
