I watched Snakes on a Plane last night, I have to confess that I only bought in because my missus doesn't like snakes  ::).

It was exactly as I expected, no plot and loads of snakes...er....on a plane. If you take it as a tongue in cheek film then its an hours or so entertainment.

I listened to Samuel L Jackson talking about it in a an interview and he even admitted that is was basically a load of snakes on a plane and thats it!

Shame I bought it as its not the type of film I'm going to watch that often, I'll just lend it to everyone and probably loose track of it as usual.

I caught up on some recent dvd's over the holiday. I thought Sin City was great. All star cast, great story and eye-poping photography. A worthy adaptation of Frank Miller's books. Miller himself co-directed it. A warning to the squeamish - it is quite violent and bloody.

The dvd set of John Frankenheimer's 1966 "Grand Prix" is a must have! I got mine at the USGP last summer. For those of you who haven't seen it, it was filmed at the actual races. Besides a reaqlly good story, you get to see outstanding footage of the 1966 Monaco, Spa, Brands Hatch and others.
It also has several good extra features - 2 of the usual "making of" films, a "making of" that was released in 1966, plus features on F1 in the 60's and Brands Hatch. These feature interviews with the likes of Moss, Surtees, Andretti and many more.

Bond, James Bond...........Great movies, sure they aren't very realistic but that's what movies are about in most cases.  Casino Royale with Daniel Craig is damn good, i was quite surprised with the power he brought to the new bond, although it was a little upsetting to see them trash that beautiful Aston.

I finally got round to watching the film Grand Prix that my nearest and dearest bought me for Christmas.

What can I say? I enjoyed the film immensely, I have always liked James Garner and although the acting and film work are very 60's it stood the test of time for me. The story is OK and chugs along at a reasonable pace, enough to keep you watching and waiting for the next piece of race footage.

This is where the film is in a class of it's own. I can't remember a film where I enjoyed the racing scenes quite so much. The in-car footage is fantastic, especially around Monaco and the engine sounds made me turn up my TV and drool uncontrollably.

Best of all was looking behind the scenes of the acting at how motorsport has changed over the years. Drivers with oily faces, pit crew standing by the side of the track with no protection, tracks with no barriers and so the list goes on. This film is a real eye opener to how 'raw' F1 racing used to be and I can understand why it grew in popularity.

Being born 'around' that time I sadly do not remember much about the GP's of that era but no one can deny these drivers of their sheer determination and courage.

A great film and throughly recommended  :good:

Glad you liked Grand Prix Wizard, while the
story plods along at times,I agree the racing
scenes are the best ever filmed.Wished they
would have had Nurburgring. :yahoo:

Anyone see any film they liked or disliked, keep
us forum members informed :)

Looks great! I'm looking foreward to it.

It's not a movie, but one of my favorite DVDs is "50 Years of Formula 1 From the Driver's Seat." Amazing on-board footage, from Fangio in a Masarati 250 F to Schumi's Ferarri. I got it for Father's Day a year ago and can't get enough of it. Monaco in a 6-wheel Tyrrell. The camera must have been mounted on the top of the air box, and the upper bodywork is off. You can see all of the footwork, shifting and steering. Great stuff of Stewart at the old Nurburgring. Commentary by Sir Sterling Moss, Sir Jackie Stewart and Mario Andretti.

One of my faverite bits is Moss, so young that he still has a full head of hair, sitting at a bar using a toy car with working steering to demonstrate how to drift!

At the end of the disc is a brief review of every World Champion up until that time, from Farina to Schumi.

One of my favorite memories! Went to the Skyview Drive-In to see it back when it first came out. My girlfriend Bobbi Kay and I were in the back of her brother's '64 Comet. He brother and his wife got a big kick out of the fact that we would stop making out and watch the movie whenever we heard the cars! 8)

I picked up a DVD of it a few months ago from the $3.99 rack at a Big Lots. Great race footage. Still as good as I remembered.

Guys for a bloody good movie you can't go past "The Departed"........a little long but well worth it, don't try to guess what the end is like, because you will be wrong.
