Webber: P2 problem was high-mileage engine failure
« on: May 28, 2010, 08:12:13 PM »
Strewth I thought for a while I may have to change my pole pick  :swoon:- but not now. :good: Very precise of Renault to build planned obselecance into their engines. :D

Red Bull Racing has confirmed that an engine failure stopped Mark Webber in the closing minutes of this afternoon's practice session in Turkey. However, with the engine having been just 50km off its limit, the team insists the failure is not something to be alarmed about.

Red Bull suffered a string of Renault engine failures last year, ultimately costing Sebastian Vettel the chance to fight for the title up until the final round. Today's failure on Webber's car is the second suffered by the Australian, having had a similar high-mileage failure in practice for the Malaysian Grand Prix in April.

Webber confirmed that the engine was high on mileage: “The engine went at the end of P2, but it was a high mileage engine, so we were expecting it to be on the edge,” he said after practice.
