Webber's Earlier Flips
« on: June 28, 2010, 04:30:37 PM »
Sunday's European GP must have seemed like deja vu to Mark Webber. He had his car do airborne flips twice at Le Mans in 1999. His Mercedes flip during quali, then again in morning warm up on race day. During the race, Peter Dumbreck's Mercedes flipped famously on the Mulsane. After that, Mercedes withdrew their entire team.

I couldn't find YouTube video of Webber's flip. This is Dumbreck's, but Mark talks about his flips.

Amazing that it happened twice before Merc admitted they had a serious problem.

After the quali flip, they tacked a couple of little "dive plane" spoilers on each front fender, ahead of the wheel arch. As the video shows, it didn't help!
