Record breaking F1 car goes up for sale
« on: July 23, 2010, 12:23:12 PM »

Up for grabs at Bonhams Collectors’ Motor Cars sale at Silverstone on July 24 is the current Formula 1 World Land Speed Record car, a 2006 Honda F1 (aka Bonneville 400).

Estimated to sell for between £10,000 and £20,000, the iconic car hit 397kph on the fabled Bonneville Salt Flats in the USA in July 2006, setting a new world land speed record for a Formula 1 racing car. The car hit an average speed of 397.360kph (246.908mph) over the Bonneville flying mile and 397.481kph (246.983mph) over the flying kilometer.

Since the transmission remains un-repaired, the car is being sold as a non-runner. Moreover, the car comes without an engine has Honda has asked to remove the engine from the car prior to sale. Still, the car has a history and is worth any auto museum or private collection.

10 to 20 thousand pounds?

And Mercedes claims that they can't give Button a car because it would cost them millions?

I guess those extra 2 years really depreciate a Honda chassis...

No engine and a broken gearbox. In other words, it's in original Honda race condition.  :P

It just goes to prove that a Mercedes is worth more than a Honda.

If you had the money floating around, it would be a seriously flashy thing to own and show off.  Shame it doesn't work properly though.  Any owner would get to know how Jenson really felt driving for Honda  :D

Does seem cheap.  :DntKnw:

I wonder how easy it would be to put a decent pertormance engine and box into the chassis?
