Swede faces world-record $1m speeding penalty

It's no wonder the Swiss are so rich if this is the level of fines they impose. :o :swoon:

In Ontario, if you're caught doing that, you lose your liscense and your car on the spot.  (Even if the car's not yours!)

Who said the Swiss are rich??  It's not as if they spread the fine around to everyone.  I could show you plenty of struggling Swiss.  The biggest problem at the moment is that there are a ton of racers on the highways, and they've been killing people almost monthly in massive crashes.  So the police have hiked the fines exponentially when you go more than 30kph over the speed limit.  Throw in a high income into the equation and there you have it.

Thankfully I do all the driving, and on paper I make little more than a waiter (my wife makes the big bucks).  Therefore my fines (like the one I am expecting from when I was passing through Biel yesterday and got flashed - my NAV didn't know the speed limit was reduced for construction) haven't been that bad.

Hard to feel sorry for this guy though...290kph in a 120kph zone is a bit retarded.

An aircraft landing is just a controlled crash.

You didn't really just try to lay some of the blame on a NAV computer did you? LOL  :tease:

Hard to feel bad for them alright. There is a time and place for that kind of speed and public roads isn't it.

If he has an SLS AMG and he let the cops catch him, he might deserve it.

Front and rear cameras...with enough definition to recognize the driver.  Can't beat Swiss tech, that's for sure.

Even if you don't get photoed, it's hard to outrun a radio.

Ever see Fast and the Furious:  Tokyo Drift?

They've got their tuned car out on the highway in Tokyo, and get clocked doing about 200 kph.  The driver freaks out, but his passenger tells him to relax, since the cop cars are limited to 160 kph, and won't even bother pursuit.

Sure you can. The average life expectancy for a traffic camera around here, from the time it's installed until it's shot/spray painted/blown up or other wise destroyed is about 12 hours. They never last past an election, anyway. They've been voted out every time they've been put on the ballot anywhere in the U.S.

aah I just love that - it's living the life in the land of the free

...and as for negating the definintion of the cameras just wear a tinted 'full-face' crash helmet - for safety reasons of course!
