Todt:Schumi may test drive yet
« on: January 16, 2007, 02:12:47 PM »

Ferrari team boss Jean Todt has made it clear that if Michael Schumacher wants to test Ferrari's new F2007, he will be allowed to.

The German left Formula One at the end of the 2006 season, but will remain with Ferrari in an advisory role for the foreseeable future.

And that role could include a few test drives if the German gets bored with retirement and wants to take the F2007 for a spin.

"I asked Michael if he was finding it difficult now. His reply was very clear: 'Absolutely not. If I miss driving I'll go karting'," Todt said at Sunday's launch of the F2007.

"Joking apart, if Michael asks to drive the car we'll find a racing suit for him with pleasure."

Even if he doesn't test, though, Ferrari will still have a lot of work available for Schumacher as the Italian stable is planning on using his prior experience and knowledge to help them win back the World titles.

"We spoke about many things of the past, the present and the future. This is obviously a new cycle: Michael is now in the factory looking at the new car but without the desire to sit in it because of his new role," Todt added.

"In absolute terms, there's little of Schumacher's experience in this new car, since it has been developed with the current regulations and the current staff in mind.

"What we will take advantage of from Michael is more about now. His role will be important for the team. He's respected and listened to, and he will be a great help for me since I'm less involved in the day-to-day affairs of the sporting arm."

what better test driver is there?

Mark Twain once opined, "it's easier to con someone than to convince them they've been conned."
