Montoya:Schumacher couldn't handle Nascar
« on: January 17, 2007, 01:08:05 PM »
Former F1 ace Juan Pablo Montoya has hit back at seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher after the German criticised the NASCAR series.

Montoya won six races in F1 and made the switch to American stock racing in 2006.

He is currently testing for the Daytona 500 with Chip Ganassi Racing.

The recently retired Schumacher told the New York Times: "What do you do in NASCAR? What is exciting there?"

The Colombian reacted angrily to Schumacher's criticism by insisting that NASCAR is more challenging than it may appear.

"Just take (Schumacher) to the Homestead Oval and tell him to stay half a second off the pace," the 31-year-old is quoted as saying by AP.

"He would have a heart attack."

Sounds like a little sour grapes

While only a fool would say that there isn't a big challenge in any form of motorsport, it must be said that with nascar the driving itself isn't as big of a challenge, it's the nerve of going that fast with that many cars around you.  I believe keeping your head and aggression that's the key.  As we have seen time and again Schumaker has both.

I agree completely with you dare.  1 order of sour grapes for Mr. Montoya

However good luck to him in his new role.

Mansell drove in CART, what is now Champ Car. As far as I know, he never ran in NASCAR. I think the last person to have run frequently in both F1 and NASCAR was Dan Gurney, back in the '60s.

Over here, we're waiting to see what happens when Juan Pablo tangles with Tony Stewart. The both are famous for their agressive driving styles and hair-trigger tempers. It should be one whale of a knock-down, drag-out fight!
