Group Lotus to Build GP2, GT2, LMP2 Cars
« on: September 29, 2010, 01:29:59 PM »
Group Lotus (the manufacturer, owned by Proton) has announced a greatly expanded racing program. I guess this is why they are fighting for the Team Lotus name.

They will be building sports/endurance cars for GT2, GT3, GT4 and an LMP2 prototype. In open wheel, they will be in GP2 and GP3. They will also increase their ties with KV Racing in the IRL, building a Lotus aero package for the 2012 season.

I've been a Lotus fan since Jim Clark drove for them. It's great to have them back in racing, but very sad to have this cat fight over the name.

I think this is really about who's in charge, who's got the power. Lotus Racing and Group Lotus were supposed to be working together. The guy at Lotus Racing got to the Team Lotus name and figures now he can go it alone. Group Lotus is saying "Hey we're better racers than you."
