Bruno Senna to Lotus?
« on: November 02, 2010, 05:58:03 PM »
The Brazilian newspaper Globo Esporte is reporting that Bruno Senna will replace Jarno Trulli at Lotus next season. They say that the deal might be announced at Interlagos this week-end. I've always been a fan of Trulli, so I hope he finds a better ride.

If this is true it'll be another triumph of the Senna name and associated money from sponsorships rather than Bruno's ability. If Hispania didn't stink so much on the performance front themselves they would have dropped Bruno by mid season or even earlier. The new Team Lotus has got to realise that playing on historical names & heritage is all very well but on their own they do not guarantee success in F1, never have and hopefully never will.

I might not be impressed by Bruno, but it's hardly fair to judge a rookie driver on a rookie team.

Lotus was right to put some experienced drivers in their cars and build the team.

I think that spending season 2 at Lotus will be a better measure of Bruno's talents.

Heikki has been faster than Jarno lately. Jarno is expensive and seems uninspired the last couple of races. Bruno probably brings sponsor dollars. I'm afraid this is a no brainer, which is too bad cause I like Jarno too.

After Fisichella left F1 Jarno was my favorite.Too bad
his race pace never matched his quakifying pace

Well, may be I am the only one, but I sure hope so. Lotus with a Renault-engine, a Red Bull gearbox and a driver like Heikki (who will be in his fifth season next year) actually can use a young boy like Senna. I think Senna might be better than he looks in his HRT.

Bruno is no youngster in F1 terms Wats-on, he is 27 years old, the young ones coming through now are usually 23 or under. Bruno's record is not terribly good either, between 04 to his last race pre F1 from 101 open wheel racecar starts he has only won 10. He has never won a championship in any formula in that time either.

Contrast that with Nico Hulkenberg who is 23, like Senna he has raced in international series since 05, has started 126 open wheel races pre F1, has won 36 of them on his way to 4 championship titles. Does Senna really seem to be a good catch for a team without him bringing plenty of funding?

That last sentence says it all, doesn't it?

I know, John, but I want to give him a fair chance. He doesn't look that bad and besides: he is a character  ;) so if not for the results, may be for what he is saying?
