Goodwood 2011 - Festival of Speed
« on: July 03, 2011, 06:40:54 PM »
I was lucky enough to attend the Goodwood Festival of Speed yesterday. This was my first time at this event and I must say it stands head and shoulders against every other motorshow I have ever been to.

The sheer size of the show has to be seen to be believed with the most stunning aspect being that you can see every car at the show driving up the famous Goodwood hill. The sounds and smells of F1 through the decades was amazing and it was interesteing to see the aero and speed differences. All the cars were driven by famous/semi-famous drivers with some really big names there such as Button, Hamilton and Webber and many other F1 drivers.

One of the highlights for me was almost getting runover by an electric golf cart ferrying Sir Sterling Moss through the crowds. Luckily I saw Sir Sterling later in the show we had a chat about GPWizard and of course I asked him to pop along to the site if ever he had time. He kindly signed a book I had purchased earlier and as you can see from the photos below he wished us 'All the best with GPWizard'

If anyone has ever considered going to Goodwood then I can woleheartedly recommend it. You really can get up close and personal with the cars, teams and drivers. It was a very English affair with salmon and champers being served at every corner and of couse the obligratory appearance from the Red Arrows made me feel very proud indeed.

I will certainly be going again. Well done Goodwood!  :good:

Oh my camera gave up on me which explaines the lack of photos.  :(

Notice Sterling is wearing the same race overalls as he wore on the front of the book.

Well done, Wizzo!  :good:

The pictures you did get are fantastic. Congrats on meeting Sir Sterling.

I'd love to go to Goodwood, if it wasn't for all of that water between here & there.

If you get the chance to go again, have Darrell send you his Go Pro and get us 12 hours or so of video will ya? Totally jealous, Goodwood hi very high on my Bucket List, though I fear I am not likely to make it.

Great pictures Wiz di you do just the single day or more?
I did all and the Friday was the best although they are all brilliant days.
At one point I was leaning on a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, one of the crew said I could, to have my picture taken.
Great memories.
Once you have retired every day is a Saturday!

Only the Saturday for me Andy and I thought it was busy. When I go again I would defiantly opt for the Friday as I am told this was the best day for getting up close to things.

The weather was just perfect wasn't it? I suspect it may not be as enjoyable with an umbrella and wellies.  :D

Glad you had a great time.  :good:

Great pictures there Wizzo, especially of some classic Williams cars.  Still, definitely a place I wanted to go to but have never (yet) made it!

The Festival of Speed programme is scheduled to be shown on ITV 4 at 8pm on 12 July. Tune in to make sure you have the chance to see all the best moments from the weekend.

Wow - glad you made it Wiz...it's on my bucket list too.  Great shots, I don't suppose that book will become an Advent competition prize though.  You've got an amazing keepsake there, and great memories.   :good: :good:
