1955 Le Mans Healey to be Sold
« on: September 16, 2011, 10:01:28 PM »
The Austin Healey 100 S that was involved in the 1955 Le Mans tragedy will be sold at Bonhams' December UK Auction. The Healey, NOJ 393, was being driven in the 55 race by Lance Macklin when it was struck from behind by Pierre Levegh. Levegh's works Mercedes-Benz 300SLR went airborne and exploded into the crowd, killing Levegh and 83 others.

The car, in "barn find" condition, expected to bring more than $790,000.

The car is carrying the number 26 in this picture of the start of the 1955 race.

i always thought the Healey was one of the best looking cars of it's day. A great shame this car was involved in such a horrific accident and allowed to deteriorate so badly. With the prices Healey's have been bringing maybe this one will find a good home.
