Here's a picture I took of Vettel on Friday at Indy in 2007. On Thursday, he had been named to sub for Kubica. It was his first F1 start. The only ones who recognized him walking to the paddock were a cameraman for Fuji TV and me. This picture is posted in the Image Gallery here at GP Wizard.

Just briefly. Hi, Good luck, that kind of thing.

Notice how nobody in the crowd is paying any attention to him. I don't think that would happen at a race now.  ;)

Has anyone else ever got to speak to a driver? I know you have spoken to Damon Hill David :)

I've never spoken to a driver, but last year at Monza I was walking up to get something to eat when Mark Webber was being brought down on scooter and he was shouting at the driver......"Come on, I gotta frigging car to drive."

I've had the great good luck to meet a number of drivers over the years. I have some pictures up in the Image Gallery.

I always seemed to have good luck at Indy. For example, David Coulthard's McLaren died on the Hulman Straight during 2nd Friday practice in 2004. They pushed his car behind the barriers right where I was standing (at the base of the south footbridge, left of the track). DC talked with the marshals and I for a while, than walked on down to Turn 9 to watch.

Close enough to shake hands. Most of the drivers and crews are quite friendly. Check out some of my pix in the Members Pics section of the Image Gallery, on pages 8,9,10 and 27 through 30. You might want to look at the Spanish fellow in picture 43, page 10. He was even too busy to talk to the people he was with!

They are some really good pictures there Cos  :good:

Sorry about the Fernando picture...that could have been my fault. You see I had a fight with him that morning because all he had been going on about all season was Lewis Hamilton  ;) hehe
