2012 IndyCar Schedule (Maybe)
« on: December 19, 2011, 02:30:30 PM »
IndyCar posted its 2012 schedule on its website last Thursday. The schedule was very quickly pulled back down. Randy Bernard now says that the schedule will be released sometime this week.

The schedule that was shown Thursday had 15 races. Four ovals (Indy, Texas, Iowa and Fontana), three road courses (Mid-Ohio, Barber and Sears Point/Infinion) and the rest temporary street and airport circuits.

Here is the Thursday posting:

March 25        St. Petersburg, Fla. (street course)

April 1             Birmingham, Ala. (road course)

April 15           Long Beach, Calif. (street course)

April 29           Sao Paulo, Brazil (street course)

May 27           Indianapolis 500, In. (oval)

June 3            Detroit, Mich. (street course)

June 9            Fort Worth, Texas (oval)

June 23          Newton, Iowa (oval)

July 8             Toronto, Ontario (street course)

July 22           Edmonton, Alberta (airport course)

Aug. 5            Lexington, Ohio (road course)

Aug. 19          Qingdao, China (street course)

Aug. 26          Sonoma, Calif. (road course)

Sept. 2           Baltimore, Md. (street course)

Sept. 15         Fontana, Calif. (oval)

Looks more like a CART schedule not an Indy racing one.  ;)

That's what I was thinking.

I think they need more airport circuits.  They produce some fantastic racing

And wasn't Milwuakee supposed to be back?

This is a rather odd schedule. Where are all the ovals? No KC, no Kentucky, no Loudon NH. They would love to be in Milwaukee and Cleveland, but there are no promoters willing to front the races. I think the Wheldon accident has them very scared. I'm a little surprised they are going to Texas.

I wonder if Texas is the reason the schedule was pulled down. I doubt that it will still be there in the final schedule. Milwaukee and Louden were already toast. Maybe Kentucky will replace Texas.

I liked the Cleveland race, too. The main problem with Cleveland now is how many races there already are within a short drive. Mid Ohio, Detroit, Indy and (maybe) Kentucky.

Glad they haven't pulled out of Canada, but really, there are so many better places to hold a race than Edmonton's muni airport.   >:(

It really is pretty amazing there are only 4 ovals left.

Upsetting to say the least... Why not, Chicago, Michigan, Kentucky, Milwaukee, Road American, The Glen, or Cleavland, to name a few...

Ditch that race in china and add three more for the same cost..
