This is becoming a wide spread phenomenon. It all goes to the "War on Drugs". A man was arrested in Wisconsin and a judge set bail at $5K. His girl friend and his mother went to his friends and managed to scrape together the money. The Police told them it had to be cash, despite the fact that in WI a certified or cashier's is acceptable. When they arrived at the jail, the police had a drug sniffing dog check the money and when he alerted, seized the cash. Recent studies by several universities have shown that over 90% of US currency has cocaine on it, but the police claimed not to be aware of that. They also said the conversation the arrested man had with his girl about who might give her funds was suspicious since he used nicknames for his friends. Only when they produced a lawyer and ATM receipts for the cash did the police return the money and accept it as bail. This is why sensible solutions to the drug problem will never come to pass, there is too much profit in it the way it is for law enforcement. Want to solve the Border problem and put the drug cartels out of business? Legalize the d@#* drugs. Prohibition didn't work in the '20s and it's not working now.

Wow - that's crazy.  So now police can penalize people because they think a crime MIGHT be committed??  Smells of Minority Report.  I thought the word 'justice' was really big in the US.   :fool: :fool: :fool: :fool: :fool:

Hear! Hear!  :good: - Oh and then tax the legal drugs like hell to have money available to clean up the mess that drug taking can make of some peoples lives.

Well said, Lonny!

This, and the illegal downloading thread, both lead back to the current Supreme Court. Citizens have no guaranteed rights, corporations have a free hand to do anything.

"The safest place to put your money if it's legitimate is in a bank account," he explained. "He stated he had two. I would put it in a bank account. It draws interest and it's safer."
- The confiscating officer.

Is he not aware how... difficult... interstate banking laws are?  I can access my money, at no charge, anywhere in Canada (provided I can find my bank's branch or ATM.  There are remote communities with limited selection).

In the USA, acessing your money in a state other than your home branch can be a gamble.  Carrying cash makes sense if you're planning to make a major purchase.  It is kind of difficult to keep in mind that the United States really is like 50 different countries.  Moreso than Canada's provinces.
