I just hope they never got into trouble over it, the establishment over here is'nt known to be pro-British.

It's an unwritten law over here that Olympic sportscasters must be partial. The most famous moment in Olympic broadcasting here in the US is Al Michaels screaming, "Do you believe in miracles?" in the final moments of the US/USSR hockey match in 1980.
“You can search the world over for the finer things, but you won't find a match for the American road and the creatures that live on it.”

I started to have trouble taking the Olympic commentary seriously when the 800 m heptathlon race featured the "observation" that, "Those of you in the Don Valley Stadium, if you shout loud enough, Jessica [Ennis] will be able to hear you!" For reference, Don Valley Stadium (where Jessica's training team is based) is over 100 miles away.

The accuracy and partiality of the commentators just went downhill from there. I hadn't seen the presenters jump up and down before (I was on the special athletics feed at the time, while BBC 1 was free to use different camera shots to show the same events if it wished).

I don't think it would be too hard to get caught up in the heat
of the moment.I always find myself rooting for the under dog
no matter the nationality.

Trouble watching the Olympics here is they save the events
I really want to see for prime time hours after the event has
taken place and I usually know who won anyway
Mark Twain once opined, "it's easier to con someone than to convince them they've been conned."

Commentators are human as well, in many cases I have seen that commentators being very much involved in the game's presentation, have in depth knowledge and in certain extent have seen the athletes grow to become a champion. So it will be very much unfair if they loose their impartial in those cherished moments.

But yes it does not give them in anyway to become a spokesman of the home team, and also become blind, and refused to admit the teams errors. Have seen them many times and that is a very much annoying and troublesome part.
