Olympics Opening Ceremony
« on: July 27, 2012, 11:54:36 PM »
Just watching the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics on TV. Very humbling watching all the nations of the world entering the stadium in London. Makes you realise how small but yet so large our planet is. The Olympic flame came through my home town a while ago, we took the kids to see it passing and that has really helped to inject interest in the games. Well done London and the UK, we have made me very proud to call myself British.  :yahoo:  :yahoo: :yahoo:

Bring on the games, and good luck Team GB and Team Ireland. I get to support two nations being from Northern Ireland.  ;)

Unreal Ian!  :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Jessica Ennis will be meeting her Majesty before too long, her performance was simply amazing.

Shame the mens double sculls couldn't have clinched that extra one.

OH MY GOD WHAT A DAY!

A long jump gold medal? WHAT?? He's British - and white! Incredible. I'm kinda surprised that there aren't any jumpers out there who can get anywhere near the record, which is about 21 years old... Surely there's a bunch of Jamaican sprinters who aren't quite at Bolt/Blake level who could jump 8.50+? I digress...

Mo Farah! That must have been so tough, 25 laps in the spotlight, surrounded by fierce competition. He held it together beautifully, fantastic. Standout performance for me.

And Jess. Our Jessie. Smashed em, golden girl, get in there.

Not to mention a bunch of rowing and cycling stuff.

Today (is it that late?) will be the first Sunday for ages where I'm not either looking forward to or bemoaning a lack of F1. Come on Bolt, make it spesh, make it gold, make me some money - Dad reckons he won't make gold or silver - £5, 4/1 in his favour.

Me as well, ;)  - I'll be concentrating on the coverage of the Superbikes
from Silverstone instead.  :good:  :D

Great stuff from all the GB team yesterday,  :yahoo: but I find it hard to get
really overexcited about the Olympics.

The Olympics are fine, and I've always thought it's good they've come
to London, but am I the only one who feels that the Beeb has just become
the Olympics channel, on all channels, and forgot about the rest?

Amazing ain't it John, the beeb can find the money to secure the Olympic viewing rights until 2020, but they can't find the money for the other 10 GP's.

The BBC was able to pay for the Olympics in 2020 because it decided not to show the Paralympics any more. Channel 4 has won the rights to that competition, and it's released a lot of money for the BBC to use to pay for the Olympics.

A few comments on the Closing Ceremonies...

Why were the Rolls Royces that some of the pop stars (I must be getting old because I can't name any of them - at least not those three) came in on the left-hand drive models (First time I've seen 2 door suicide doors too)?  Surely the mother company could have found a few from England to take to the Olympics?  Or did they figure they could run up the odometers a bit on the overseas cars?  ;)

I guess the audio quality sucked for everyone on TV.  Not sure how it was in the stadium, but something went seriously wrong with the audio system between the opening and closing ceremonies.

That pixel system kicks A$$!!  I loved that they could turn the entire place into a big screen.  Big applause.

Where can I get one of those psychedelic taxis?  I bet they could sell them on eBay for a fortune.   :good:

Over here, NBC climaxed it much criticized Olympic coverage by cutting the closing ceremony short to show a new sitcom. We didn't get to see Ray Davies or The Who.
